Jan. 8th, 2005 @ 11:26 pm A stunning revelation
I have decided I will start the alphabetic progression through my CD collection for ripping to my Nomad Zen. I'm doing the A's now. Before that I picked another 20 or 30 discs, non-alphabetically, to throw in there. Picked a few things like some Husker Du, Duran Duran, Linday Buckingham, etc.

My stunning revelation is that I own a whole lot of what the kids would call "80's music". Like when I was teaching Governor's School two years ago and was playing "Shock The Monkey" over the speakers in the classroom before class started and two of my students walked in and said, "Oh, cool, '80s music." No, this is Peter freakin' Gabriel. A musical genius! It is not to be lumped in to the same category as the "Ghostbusters" theme or Madonna's "Holiday" or Eddie Murphy's "Party All The Time". But to them it's all part of the same, WPLJ-addled melange.

At any rate, I own a lot of the stuff. I'd like to say it's the best of it anyway, as I pop Asia's "Astra" into the CD drive. But really, there was quite a good bit of 80's music made, and I'm not going to apologize for liking it. It's the soundtrack of high school and college. The big drum sounds, roaring DX7s, the all-digital recordings. Narrow ties, tuxedo jackets, Docksiders, my glorious mullet. Good times, good times.

That means you have the one where my voice totally cracked. I always had this tendency for my throat to completely seize up before any performance, more so for a solo. It was purely psychological, and the more I tried to fight it the worse it got.

But if you could make some MP3s. . . someone needs to digitize George Eberhardt's collection. Holy crap.

I'm pretty sure I had the split ends trimmed in time for the Holiday Ball sophomore year, which is where I was going after this picture was taken.

Hair Core did mullets, I assure you.
