Nov. 14th, 2004 @ 07:19 pm Why, sometimes, it sucks to be in the top media market in the US
A few weeks ago, we were up in Rochester, NY visiting family. We were watching the evening news. The evening news in Rochester is much more, well, parochial, than in NYC, and often has stories of actual interest in the community.

For instance, there was a story about the fact that the new telephone directories were released that day.

The anchorwoman says "The new phone books are here!" Of course, I immediately think of Steve Martin in The Jerk, Navin R. Johnson bouncing about, showing his name to his boss, and figured the reference was unintentional.

Imagine my surprise when they actually start showing the scene from the movie.

They would never do that on the NYC news.
