So what, you ask? Well, I've never done it. Well, that's not true--I haven't run significantly since high school, and then it was only the mile for the presidential fitness test, and the occasional wrestling workout that took us on a lap around the pond in front of the high school.
But a few weeks ago, it occured to me I need something else besides cycling and weightlifting. Something I can do whenever. I bought running shoes Monday night, and today we rode out to the middle school on our bikes and did laps on the track.
I did 5 laps (1.25 miles) and then walked and half-run the next lap. The wife did 2 miles in the time I did my laps. But that's okay, she's a lifelong runner and is pretty good at it (although not at her peak performance.) So I did a 12 minute mile. I did it. I can do it again. Apparently my form's pretty good (an advantage of having someone around who not only is a runner but whose father was a running coach during his teaching career) so I'm looking forward to getting faster and stronger.
Hey, incetardis, perhaps we'll do that triathalon someday.
