Playing At An SUV Near You: Porn

I'm sorry, this meme was so several days ago, but I had to get this off my chest.

I've hated these car video players for a while now. Not only do I have some serious issues with the idea that we can't raise our children without them always being within 20 feet of a video screen turning them into mindless consuming automatons, but it's a question of safety.

I, like 90% of us, like to think of myself as an above average driver. I am such, I believe, because I pay attention. This means constantly being aware in my vision and responding when there's motion or some change that I need to be aware of. Seeing a video screen in the car in front of me means my attention is constantly drawn to the screen because, well, stuff's moving in there, and it could be important. I'm not really interested in having this reflex muted, so I'm pissed because I am having my important driving attention diverted by something useless.

But, apparently, I'm the only one who has this concern, 'cause people are only getting annoyed now that these things might be used for porn. How incredibly irrelevant is that?

I noticed that myself when I first saw SUV's advertised with video screens. I wondered why they put them in view of the font seats. At least with most minivans, the screen is behind the driver. But then again, I think that watching movies in the car is spoiling our kids anyway. I had to deal with long car trips by enjoying the scenery, and I think that's helped me form my good sense of direction. It also teaches patience. I think the next generation of youth is going to grow up expecting to be pampered with something to occupy them 24/7.
