Feeling like you can help

Everyone was telling us to get saline drops for the baby's nose. Forced air heat makes the house dry, and his poor little nose is stuffy. We have been cleaning him out with a nasal aspirator, which usually means about 3 minutes of yelling and screaming (him, not us) while we eventually coax out of each nostril a booger that would be big coming out of my nose. Thing is, once you get them out, he's all smiles.

So finally this weekend we get to buy him some saline drops. He's cranky this evening--doesn't want to eat, doesn't need burping, diaper change doesn't help. So we try the saline drops. Two drops in each nose and in 10 seconds, he's smiling at me like crazy. I was stunned that it worked so quickly and so well. He's still sitting here, happy as a clam, playing with his rattle (well, he got it around his arm and is waving it, I'm not sure if he knows how or why) some 40 minutes later. He's breathing fine.

Something so simple, and I feel so bad we didn't even have our act together enough to get it. But now, nose drops it is.
