The Japanese school system does not need to be made harsher. The suicide rate amongst Japanese teens is high enough as it is - my understanding is that their equivalent of the SAT doesn't just determine the colleges that might accept you but also basically determines the entire course of your career. If you don't do well on it, you're basically screwed.

Plus, you know, there are the teachers who throw chairs at you.

I tend to agree. But let's not forget jealous lovers, tentacle monsters, and demons- all of which, if the anime that I watch is to be believed, are some of the largest problems facing Japanese highschool girls in a given semester.

There's really no need to add "chair tossing" to their woes..
