Current Music: Marillion -- "Dry Land"
Luckily, I'm not Macaulay Culkin.

I'm watching my Marillion DVDs (surely Marillion have made the drinking game by now?). I'm watching the one of the concert I was at. The wife doesn't want to watch because she doesn't want her memory of the evening spoiled. I appreciate that. It's so cool, though. And it's not the same evening actually, but the night after, so it's different.

I also have homework to do tonight. Must learn C++. Must write an algorithm to find the convex hull of a set of points. Must make pretty functions and procedures. Must get g++ working on every computer I own. Should be fun. Probably lift some weights too--went running yesterday and did well, but almost hurt my knee. Well, I did last night, and I iced it, and today it was okay, but no tempting fate for me, nosiree.

I've got to find something to say, one of these days. Man, oh man.

Okay. The DVD just got to the good bit. I can't describe it unless you know Marillion really well. Okay, I'll try. They've got a song, Dry Land that's actually a cover tune from Steve Hogarth's old band, How We Live but showed up on a Marillion album back in 1992.

Being in the museum watching the show, they started this version of the track with a chord progession that felt vaugely familiar, but I couldn't place it. It was strangely beautiful, though. A cool breeze came in from the open door cooling off the hot room, and I suddenly realized I was in England 10 feet away from my favorite band. H starts singing the song and I figure out what it is, just as they break into the first musical interlude after the first verse, completely spellbound and mesmerized by just how cool it is that I'm there. The rest of the night was cool, but that 5 minutes was the quintessence of the experience for me.
