Feb. 21st, 2003 @ 08:07 am Stunning fact
All of the weddings I've been to performed in Unitarian churches have ended in divorce.

Eeeek. I worked at the MUF for a while while an undergraduate. Every third weekend or so, I was the ``event co-ordinator'' for a wedding. This consisted of vacuuming/otherwise cleaning the second and third floors of the mansion, and then the first floor after the wedding was over. After getting cleaning the former, I sat in an office and read, sampling the catering for free. It was a great college job, except for the long walk to and from work late at night.

I heard ``Oye Como Va'' dozens of times, and witnessed dozens of UU weddings.

Shit, every UU wedding where I've kept tabs on them, did end up that way. Including my mom's second wedding. Eeek.

One of my sisters got married at MUF and is still married. I got married at a UU church in Plainfield and got divorced soon after.

Statistically, this proves nothing.

UU church in PLAINFIELD?

(Link)
Holy cow, what year, if you don't mind me asking?

I spent a good deal of my grade and middle school years attending that church, and my mother continued to do so for a while after that. We were active members of the community, though I've only kept in contact with one person from that church.

I occasionally attended sunday services 1992 thru 1994. Your face does look a little familiar.

It's a small state after all, a small, small, state.

That was around the tail end of my attendance there. Do you remember Bearcat, the Vylingdums, or the Henleys?

I realize now I may have been making a subconscious comment on the use of meaningless statistics. Of course what I said means nothing. It's just strange. Talking to yesthattom I realized there's at least 1 other correlative fact you could ascribe to the two weddings in question. You may find, given a real study, that UU weddings are more stable because of the qualities of the people who tend to be Unitarian. I'd buy that.

The lesson is don't trust people who tell you things if they can't tell you the methodology used to determine their facts.
